A 9V battery must be inserted into the device before switching it on. Unscrew the bottom handle cover, and pull off the plastic cap. You have to slide the cap off, if you just flip it off, you can’t put the 9V flashlight in there because it won’t fit. Once inserted, screw the cap back on. The device then just needs to be switched on at the handle. Also mount the dish on the device before first use.
